Philippa Allan
Founding Director
Originally from Australia, Philippa Allan is widely experienced, both as an active musician and as a manager. She has lived in Berlin for almost 30 years, returning regularly to Australia.
As a violinist, she toured, recorded and performed internationally with orchestras and chamber music formations, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Ever keen to venture off the beaten track, she explored contemporary classical music early on, experimenting with atypical concert formats and venues; and co-founding an electric string quartet during her studies in Sydney. She holds a B.Mus (Hon.) in violin and a Master of Laws (LLM in International Business and Management), and was a fellow of the Von Karajan Akademie of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 - 2000.
In 2007, she became a senior artist manager at a prominent international agency for several years. She later worked at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, before moving on to found Real Arts in early 2019.
Philippa has always taken a special interest in contemporary music, interdisciplinary projects, and listening for voices which might otherwise be missed within the confines of existing traditional structures. She seeks to empower artists to gain greater artistic control over their own careers and parcipitates in current global conversations on transformation and growth in the music industry. Passionate about Australian music, she is keen to nurture the international profile of the country’s arts organisations by fostering opportunities for partnerships and creative collaboration.
