&nbsp;
Real Arts was originally inspired from a desire to more closely connect the artistic worlds of Australia and Europe via Asia.Real Arts aims to bridge gaps, creating strategies and opportunities informed by the crux of the artistic idea at hand, to forge new paths for audiences, presenters and performers of tomorrow.
Since launching in 2019 and in the globally turbulent years that have followed for the industry, our role in connecting ideas, artists, disciplines, funding and organisations is much in demand while the arts industry continues to regroup and grow.

	Consulting

Real Arts is based in Berlin, a modern hub of the European
scene, where it is easy to hear huge range of world-class live performances, and connect with international artists, programmers and agencies face to face. Conversations with European presenters also lead to cross-border co-productions
and commissions, and create performance opportunities for touring
ensembles. For arts organisations abroad, having a personal
contact based in the European time zone helps forge and nurture invaluable
relationships with artists and presenters there, injecting impetus into the artistic
planning process.
Most recently, developing strategies around fundraising and PR for artists and organisations, and coordinating international co-productions, have become a prominent aspect of our activities.Real Arts acts as an extension of an organisation, creating new connections and injecting energy and ideas into projects and planning, to acheive outcomes that can be drawn on long
after the original project has
come to fruition.

Artist Management

Real Arts approaches artist management in terms of
mentoring and teamwork, working closely with an artist to create touring and project
opportunities that are driven by their artistic vision.
The idea is for an artist to ultimately be empowered to continue on their own,
utilising the contacts and experiences gained, and applies regardless of whether the emphasis is on booking, or helping an artist to co-produce in terms of handling funding applications and securing and working together with the best possible partners for a particular project to “make it happen”.A special emphasis of Real Arts’ work is on the international contemporary music scene, interdisciplinary projects and listening for what is not being heard within traditional existing structures of today’s music scene. We are committed to the ongoing learning and dialogue that is necessary to help create meaningful change.
The Australian arts scene draws influence from a certain cultural proximity to Europe on the one hand in
the traditions it draws on, and a vital distance on the other, which is enriched by the vastness of its nature and indigenous history and the
richness of its multiculturalism. It is producing artists of excellence with a
fresh outlook and unique ideas, and audiences that are curious about the unexpected. Reflections upon questions of relevance,
identity and integrity continue to drive creative concepts that speak to audiences around the world.

Originally from Australia, Philippa Allan is widely
experienced, both as an active musician and as a manager. She has lived in Berlin
for almost 30 years, returning regularly to Australia.

As a violinist, she toured, recorded and
performed internationally with orchestras and chamber music formations,
including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Ever
keen to venture off the beaten track, she explored contemporary classical music
early on, experimenting with atypical concert formats and venues; and co-founding an
electric string quartet during her studies in Sydney. She holds a B.Mus (Hon.) in violin and a Master of Laws (LLM in International Business and Management), and was a fellow of the Von Karajan Akademie of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 - 2000.&nbsp;

In 2007, she became a senior artist manager at a prominent international agency for several years. She later worked at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, before moving on to found
Real Arts in early 2019.

Philippa has always taken a special interest in contemporary music, interdisciplinary
projects, and listening for voices which might otherwise be missed within the
confines of existing traditional structures. She seeks to empower artists to gain greater artistic control over their own careers and parcipitates in current global conversations on transformation and growth in the music industry. Creating and overseeing fundraising strategies across borders plays a significant role in her work.

Passionate about Australian music, she is keen to nurture the international profile of the country’s
arts organisations by fostering opportunities for partnerships and creative collaboration.

"An
evening with the Arditti Quartet puts your inner compass in a powerful spin.
Expect the unexpected with a quartet which so often strays far from the beaten
track.” - Hamburger Abendblatt

The Arditti Quartet enjoys a global
reputation for their spirited and technically refined interpretations of
contemporary and earlier 20th century music. Several hundred string quartets
and other chamber works have been written for the ensemble since its foundation
by first violinist Irvine Arditti in 1974. These works have left a permanent
mark on 20th century repertoire and the genre itself, and have given the Arditti Quartet a firm place
in music history.

The
quartet celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

Such composers as Adès, Aperghis, Birtwistle, Cage, Carter,
Dufourt, Dusapin, Fedele, Ferneyhough, Francesconi, Gubaidulina, Harvey,
Hosokawa, Kagel, Kurtág, Lachenmann, Ligeti, Nancarrow, Rihm, Scelsi, Sciarrino
and Stockhausen have entrusted the world premieres of their music to them, and
the quartet’s repertoire comprises all of the string quartets of many of the
above composers and others.

The ensemble believes that close
collaboration with composers is vital to the process of interpreting modern
music and therefore attempts to collaborate with every composer whose works it
plays. Teaching for many years at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music among
others, the players have given numerous master classes and workshops for young
performers and composers all over the world.

The Arditti Quartet’s extensive discography now features well over 200 CDs.

42 discs have so far been released as part of
the ensemble’s continuing series on the French label Naïve Montaigne alone. The
series presents numerous contemporary composer features as well as the first
digital recordings of the complete Second Viennese School’s string quartet
music. The quartet is renowned for recording many composers’ works in their presence, including the complete quartets of Luciano Berio shortly before his
death. Legendary episodes in recent music history have also been immortalised
on CD, such as Stockhausen’s spectacular Helicopter
Quartet.

"With their tantilisingly nonchalant accomplishment, one sometimes forgets the
enormous difficulties of the works. [...] For the Ardittis, the term
'unplayable' does not exist. They always maintain control and most certainly
never lack musical presence, charisma and energy."- Schweitzer Musikzeitung

Over the past five decades, the ensemble has
received many prizes for its work. It has won the Deutscher Schallplatten Preis
several times and the Gramophone Award for the best recording of contemporary
music in 1999 (Elliott Carter), 2002 (Harrison Birtwistle) and 2018 (Pascal
Dusapin).
The prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Prize was awarded to them in
1999 for lifetime achievement in music, setting the quartet on a par with other
winners such as Berio, Britten, Carter, Ferneyhough, Lachenmann, Ligeti and
Rihm.

Hilda Paredes is firmly established as one of the
leading Mexican composers of her generation. Musicians, singers and conductors frequently
praise the perfect balance she achieves between brilliant compositional technique
and a keen sensibility for the particular instruments and individuals for whom she
writes.

“…admired for compositions that mix
modernist rigor and extended techniques with a primal energy rooted in Maya
lore” - NY Times

While there is a testimony of constant
collaboration with Mexican poets and artists in her works, she also draws
inspiration from many different composers and cultures from around the world and
has been based in London for 40 years. Her music has been acclaimed by
critics for the refinement of her craft, marked by the intensity of the
relationship between time, dramatic force and poetic approach.

The seven singers of the Neue Vocalsolisten see themselves as explorers and discoverers: in exchange with composers, they are continuously searching for new forms of vocal expression.&nbsp;

With more than 30 premieres annually, the ensemble’s work is&nbsp; considered to be both leading and unique in the field of contemporary vocal music worldwide.

With their distinctive brand of virtuosic&nbsp; exploration, the Neue Vocalsolisten have shaped the genre of vocal chamber music-theatre, including works by Georges Aperghis, Carola Bauckholt, Luciano Berio, Chaya Czernowin, Ricardo Eizirik, Luca Francesconi, Andreas Eduardo Frank,

Malte Giesen, Sara Glojnarić, Gordon Kampe, Mischa Käser,

Georgia Koumará, Aya
Metwalli,

Sarah Nemtsov,

Sergej Newski,

Lucia Ronchetti, Katharina Rosenberger,

Elena Rykova,

François Sarhan,

Salvatore Sciarrino,

Simon Steen-Andersen, Oscar Strasnoy,

Ming Tsao,

Claude Vivier, Jennifer Walshe, Raed Yassin and Yiran Zhao and many more. The ensemble’s partners are the most prestigious specialist ensembles and orchestras, international opera houses, as well as the independent theatre scene, labels, electronic studios, and new music festivals and concert series presenters around the world.

Idiosyncratic interdisciplinary formats connecting music-theatre, performance, installation and concert staging form a key part of their activities. Recent collaborations included artists who explore uses of digital media, with an interest in networks, experimenting with genres, dissolving space, perspectives and functions.

The Neue Vocalsolisten regularly move between the borders of different musical cultures and genres. Recent projects included

»Mediterranean Voices« in which they created a concert installation together with composers from twelve different countries in the Mediterranean region and the video artist Daniel Kötter. Projects following from this so far include »VOICE AFFAIRS« where the singers worked with musicians from Beirut’s experimental music scenes; and the

»BALKAN AFFAIRS« which
is an extensive multidisciplinary triptych
that explores the legacy of the Yugoslav Wars and contemporary life in the Western Balkans. The latter garnered high critical praise for its emotional impact and bridging historical divides, navigating challenging themes and acheiving a balance between historical truth and artistic expression.<img width="1120" height="1094" width_o="1120" height_o="1094" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/44597e941a4cf88fbf5e61143538a82fe50bbd8e79c2ce1f9d6cfabe79e8b66b/NVS7Komplett_Boot_wth_DanielG_C_MartinSigmund_sq_WEB.jpg" data-mid="226843685" border="0" data-scale="100" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/44597e941a4cf88fbf5e61143538a82fe50bbd8e79c2ce1f9d6cfabe79e8b66b/NVS7Komplett_Boot_wth_DanielG_C_MartinSigmund_sq_WEB.jpg" />Since 2020, the Neue Vocalsolisten have been conceiving »Magical Spaces« in their Stuttgart base, working with
programmers and web designers to explore performance formats between analogue and digital perception, opening up the digital space as an artistically separate stage in itself.

In March 2025, Neue Vocalsolisten returned to the Staatsoper Stuttgart stage in its central role as

the “village community” representing society and reflection in the manner of a Greek Chorus,

in DORA, by Bernhard Lang and Frank Witzel, the opera crowned “World Premiere of the Year” by the critics of Opernwelt Magazine in 2024.

In addition to the interpretation and further development of their genre, the Neue Vocalsolisten are dedicated to training next generation artists in the challenges of experimental vocal music in master classes and the digital »NVS Academy«.

The Neue Vocalsolisten have been honoured with numerous awards for their contributions to contemporary vocal music, including the Silver Lion of the Venice Biennale 2021 and the Italian critics’ prize Premio Abbiati 2022.
In the words of the Venice Biennale jury, the Neue Vocalsolisten is an ensemble whose »creative collaboration with some of the greatest living composers has decisively advanced the development of the contemporary a cappella repertoire«.

Debut poetry collection to be published 28.02.2026:

“Unexpected, funny, insightful and sometimes alarmingly honest, I found this collection deeply touching and thought-provoking.”
- Sir Simon Rattle“Gran Partita is a remarkable debut... Matthew McDonald succeeds in expressing the inexpressible - and in doing so, offers a collection that is brilliant, original and captivating.”
- Lisa Kelly
“McDonald writes with such charm and self-deprecating wit that the intricacy and musicology of Gran Partita feels completely natural, as a melody that has always existed but we’re just starting to hear it now. Unapologetically smart, thoughtful and convoluted, but a sheer pleasure from page to page. All I know is that to write poetry this fluent is to single-handedly tune an orchestra, hold your breath and raise the baton.”
- Luke Kennard
