Lior Navok

Composer / Pianist

The music of composer Lior Navok (°1971) has reached the ears of audiences worldwide in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Sydney Opera House, Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Nuernberg Opera, among others.

Curious to explore and collaborate with unique individuals, Navok writes challenging, yet communicative music which spans the genres of symphonic, chamber and choral music, and appeals to well-seasoned concert goers, performers and broader audiences alike.
Particularly inspired in his writing by the emotional intensity of colour tones and textures, Navok shapes his music much as an artist paints a canvas. Over the years, his interest in the theatrical aspect of music has grown. He uses the power of stories to draw listeners in and create space for new perspectives as a vehicle to explore issues of today’s society.

Navok’s passion for the stage has brought the birth of two operas: The Bet – based on a short story by Anton Chekhov and An Unserem  Fluss (By Our River)

“His “Nocturne” heard here in its world premiere is fascinatingly scored for small vocal chorus with instrumental enrichment, the piece is a gorgeous tonal landscape.“
The Boston Globe

His fascination for the child’s perspective inspired him to write several works for younger audiences brought the creation of The Little Mermaid, (Andersen) and The Adventures of Pinocchio (Collodi). These works have been performed in several  languages including German, French, Hebrew, Spanish and Korean. Recent works for children include Brave Little Timmy to an original libretto (in which the child saves a wolf) and Beauty and the Beast. He is currently writing music-theatrical work for older teens and young adults, Lollipop Lotta, for the Belgian duo GOGGLES (voice / percussion).
“Navok’s new CD is the work of a serious artist who isn’t averse to seducing the ear and touching the heart [...] Navok leads a subtle, atmospheric performance.”

Lollipop Lotta
Lior Navok is writing a new musik-theatre piece for the young Belgian duo GOGGLES, (perc / voice) who recently won the Supernova Competition hosted by the Klara Festival.

A work written for older teens and young adults about a young woman in the process of realising her lack of connection to her true self and her real friends, living in an increasingly alienating society. Between self-doubt, social media projections, fear of failure and finding her way, the audience joins the performers on Lotta’s journey. This is the second music-theatrical work Navok has written for the duo.
